LILJA tar i mot Kulturkaravanen!

Lørdag 12. september kl 19 stopper karavanen hjemme hos vår allsidige og spennende jazzgitarstjerne; Oddrun Lilja.

Nå er hennes etterlengtede album Marble klart for lansering, og vi får en samtale og noen smakebiter om og fra dette spennende musikkprosjektet hjemme i Oddrun Lilja’s stue.

Den store releasekonserten vil finne sted 31. oktober på Nasjonal Jazzscene.

Oddrun Lilja, kjent som gitarist i Bugge Wesseltoft’s «New Conception of Jazz», Frode Haltlis «Avant folk» og «Moksha», kommer endelig med sin debutplate under artistnavnet «LILJA».

De siste årene har hun reist verden rundt for å samarbeide med lokale tradisjonsmusikere, deriblant ragamusikere i India, gnawamusikere i Marokko, sirkusartister i Etiopia og palestinere i en flyktningeleir i Libanon.

Med inspirasjon i disse reisene har hun komponert ny musikk. Låtene bærer navn etter stedene hun har besøkt. Kunnskap om folkemusikk fra ulike deler av verden veves sammen med tekster om tilhørighet, livet og verden sett fra komponistens perspektiv.

Elementer fra eldgamle tradisjoner er satt inn i et moderne akustisk lydbilde preget av lekenhet, virtuositet og spilleglede.

På albumet har hun fått med seg et stjernelag av musikere bestående av Bugge Wesseltoft, Sanne Rambags, Jo Skaansar, Helge Andreas Norbakken og produsent Kåre Chr. Vestrheim, i tillegg til gjesteartister fra Pakistan, Marokko, Kenya og Libanon.

På karavanebesøket må vi imidlertid nøye oss med en noe enklere besetning, av plassmessige og smittevernmessige årsaker. Vi skal jo møtes i Lilja’s stue, sammen med Kultur Uten Grenser’s «reiseleder» Patricia Morales og våre teknikere (og musikere) Ketil Kielland Lund og Fernando Jauregui!

Lilja’s musikere for denne spesielle anledningen, som ble påtenkt i siste liten, blir Beate Slettevoll Lech og Kouame Sereba, to andre størrelser i norsk musikkliv!

Siden de faste i bandet ikke hadde anledning til å være med på lørdag, har Oddrun igjen fått med seg musikere fra øverste hylle, så her får vi nå enda en måte å oppleve stedene på Liljas reisekart.

NB: Oddrun Lilja oppfordrer alle som vil «bli med hjem» på lørdag til å bake sin egen kake, så nyter vi kake mens vi feirer plateslipp og får med oss noen musikalske smakebiter!

Culturecaravan visits Lilja.

Super group "LILJA" are releasing their debut album "Marble" on Jazzland recordings September 11th.

The following day, Saturday at 7 pm, KUG are broadcasting live from her living room, an exclusive albumrelease/talkshow, lead by our own hostess, Patricia Morales.

For the occasion Oddrun Lilja is bringing with her two other outstanding musicians: Beate Slettevoll Lech and Kouame Sereba! Both very well known and valued.

Unfortunately her steady band could not attend our event on this short notice, and Oddrun then picked her stand ins from the top shelf.

This reflects clearly that Oddrun Lilja is recognised as an authentic, exciting and virtuos guitarist and composer from the Norwegian jazz- and folk music scene.

In addition to her world wide touring with recognized bands as Bugge Wesseltoft’s "New Conception of Jazz," Frode Haltli’s "Avant Folk," and "Moksha," she has for many years travelled the world to play and perform with local musicians over extended periods.

She has performed with raga musicians in India and Nepal, gnawa musicians in Morocco, traditional musicians in East Africa and jazz musicians in New York and all over Europe.

All these journeys have given her a lot of knowledge about traditional music. With an urge to share some of these impressions with the world, she is now releasing the album "LILJA: Marble".

The album consists of ten pieces, named after cities she has visited. In the music we can recognize elements from ancient traditions, inserted into a modern acoustic jazz soundscape, characterized by playfulness, virtuosity and playfulness.

On the record Oddrun Lilja plays guitars, backing vocals and violin, Sanne Rambags has the main vocals, Jo Skaansar plays bass and Helge Andreas Norbakken takes care of the percussions.

On several tracks Bugge Wesseltoft plays piano, while Ashraf Sharif Khan plays sitar on some tracks. The producer, Kåre Chr. Vesterheim is also contributing on a couple of tracks with his akkordeon and dulcimer. In addition to this “super crew”, we can also enjoy a number of other musicians on certain tracks, from Morocco, Pakistan, Kenya and Lebanon, adding to the great diversity of the album.

On this Culturecaravan event however, due to limited space and safety precautions, the crew is limited to Oddrun Lilja herself and her two outstanding stand ins.

To underline that this is an intimate celebration of the album release, Oddrun urges you, the audience, to prepare for the event by baking a cake, and then enjoy it along with her and her crew in between the musical pleasures! You pick the recipe while she picks the music!

And then, before or after, you enjoy the actual album in it’s full length and width, now it will be out there!
